EarMaster Essential is a handy application that helps you improve your hearing skills by giving you access to dozens of useful exercises.
When you launch the program for the first time, a window will appear with the configuration wizard where you can choose which music instruments to use on the screen to enter notes, select the proper sound driver and test its functionality.

Once you configure the application's settings according to your needs, you can opt for the Standard Tutor where you will be guided through a wide variety of lessons, Jazz Tutor, which comes with lessons and exercises related to jazz music, and the Customized Exercise, where you can build your own exercises.

There are four main types of hearing exercises: Interval Comparison, Interval Identification, Chord Identification and Rhythm Reading. Once you complete a test, your results will be displayed in the Statistics section and the more correct answers you have, the higher your final score will be.
If you are a competitive person and you wish to test your capabilities in a more effective way, you can opt for a time limit mode and select a time range for the questions and answers.

You will also be able to answer the questions by simply plugging your microphone or other music instruments such as the electric guitar and singing or clapping according to your answer.

A significant advantage of using this program is the fact that you will be able to customize your exercises by going to Exercise Settings -> Exercise Setup, selecting items you want to exercise (Major, mi9, dim7, Unison, Two Octaves, etc.), choose a proper playing type (harmonic, ascending, descending) and many other configurations that can apply to your practice exercises.

To sum it all up, it's worth trying EarMaster Essential, an easy-to-use application that enables you to develop your hearing skills and helps you become a better music artist.
